Okay, so it’s week five of lockdown and by now, you’ve probably culled your wardrobes, rearranged your living room three times and finished all the gin… no? Just me then. If only someone had told me that alphabetising my DVD’s, albeit satisfying, is perhaps a pointless activity given that we no longer own a DVD player. I think you can tell by now that I’m either running out of stuff to do or have gone completely insane in all of this. Seriously, let me know in the comments… I’m genuinely unsure.
This month, Maple Street put together a week-long guide of things to do whilst we’re all stuck at home. But for those of you like me, easily bored and fed up of the monotony, here’s a list of more stuff to do. Since we’re stuck at home for another three more weeks (lord help me) I’ve broken it down by genre so that you can build these activities around your busy schedules… you know, in case there’s a clash between banana bread making and your evening PT sesh.
A Click To The Theatre
Monday: Hampstead Theatre at Home
The Hampstead Theatre at Home series is showing a unique recording of Tiger Country. NOTE: not to be confused with Netflix’s hit series Tiger King. It’s a story about a group of NHS workers and their struggle in coping with the pressures of the job. Pretty epic timing huh? Watch on demand from Monday 20 April until Sunday 26 April.
Thursday: National Theatre At Home
National Theatre Live’s at-home service streams the very best live productions, available to watch from the comfort of your own home. This week’s performance is none other than Bill Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night featuring Tamsin Greig. Tune in this Thursday.
Friday: The Shows Must Go On!
From stage to screen, The Show Must Go On! is a weekly series featuring Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most famous productions. You can watch one of his musicals on YouTube every week online, from 7pm. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and Jesus Christ Superstar were the some of the first productions to be streamed, followed by the Phantom of the Opera’s 25th anniversary show. If you’re missing musicals, tune in every Friday for your theatrical fix. If you need more convincing, here’s Mr Lloyd Webber himself introducing this spectacular series:
A Virtual Pub Quiz
Monday: Radio X Pub Quiz
Okay, we’ve mentioned this one before, but we back it! Radio X’s, Mr Rob DJ hosts a pub quiz every week at 7.30pm. Head over to his twitter page on Monday evenings for the link to join in: @Real_RobDJ.
Tuesday: The Corona Arms
So, a mate of mine recommended this one to me. His friend actually created this pub quiz as a way of connecting with old pals up north. In the space of a month, it has gained a lot of traction in the media, not just for its amazing fundraising, but also for its lip sync challenges, impersonations and one hilariously feisty landlady. I’m at The Corona Arms every Tuesday. Join in on Instagram to get involved.
Thursday: Camden Town Brewery’s Pub Quiz
As a fellow Camdenite, this one brings me great joy. Following the clap for NHS, why not take part in Camden Town Brewery’s Pub Quiz? Hosted by funnyman Josh Weller, this quiz takes to Instagram Live. All you need is a pen, paper and pint.

However, this app has helped me and so many others I know find a love for running. Download it and see what it’s all about.
